Groups in Action is a training programme and skills learning resource for people in community groups. It is practically based and interactive, and is centred on a series of themes:
The essential element of Groups in Action is that participants will apply the learning directly to their community groups to enable them to achieve their goals.
Everything you do will directly relate to your community group but the way the programme has been structured enables you to progress at your own speed while gaining the support of other individuals and groups.
This approach can help overcome the costs and obstacles of the traditional group learning approach with its costs of trainers, venues, travel and dependant care.
Making the programme relevant to your community group better accommodates the learning of topics including managing activities and projects, planning and fundraising, working with others, and understanding your, and other communities.
You have the option to gain accreditation for any modules completed if you choose, or you and your group can simply benefit from taking part in Groups in Action. Those putting into practice the Facilitator training will be able to use these skills in other capacities within their organisations. Each pilot programme will last approximately six months.
Groups in Action develops ADEPT's existing successful and tailored capacity building programme and makes it more accessible to all community members.
It's about enabling learning to take place in ways that best meet the needs of local community members - by using the web, CDs, work books, and with flexible electronic and personal support.
Who provides the personal support? A network of "Peer Facilitators" from local community groups will be trained to mentor the learning and development of the community group members.
The topics, materials and methods of delivery are tried and tested, however, we will continue to develop them with the direct involvement and evaluation of those participating in Groups in Action, including key partners such as yourselves.
